The Future Of Star Scheme

of course the internet and a good website are paramount to get hotel bookings. any thoughts to the contary are just move evidence of people in ivory towers being completely remote from the business.
visit britain have caused themselves a lot of alienation with their members, especially by insisting that the word hotel is removed from your name if you wish to be rated in the guest accommodation category.
they seem to over look the fact that we could loose a lot of business by changing our name, just so we can keep their nice little sign on our property.
they dont listen to their members views despite many protests and just carry on regardless with a just do it or leave attitude.
in the end they will do themselves out of work.
we get little in return for high subscriptions, poor marketing, badly designed and slow websites, and very little public awareness of the scheme.
basically the only reason we join is because our competitors do!

Kim, I might have written this myself but included the word AA, too. I am absolutely furious about the whole thing! Ask Caroline!!

I posted this on the other discussion topic, but it seems it's more appropriate here: Personally I think all the grading boards a waste of value as far as advertising goes. I am with the AA and they have the audacity to claim to promote your establishment but when they come round to reassess you they downgrade you (the new star system) from 4 diamonds to 3 stars.... and they call this promoting and good advertising?! I think not. I complained, got reassessed but it was too late for their 2008 book and the 3* grading went in instead of the 4* star grading. I aks my customers on their opinions regarding grading and the majority say that they make their own assessment by how informative a website is, so more pictures and accurate descriptions can probably make a bigger diffenece to their decision than a pompous inspector's myopic opinion. The trouble is they can't seem to be able differentiate now between b&bs and hotels - all are expected to provide the same which rather defeats the object of running a family friendly establishment instead of charmless multinational.
