Whitbread reports good start to the year
Whitbread – the owner of Premier Inn – has reported a good start to 2008, with total sales up 14.6 per cent on the same period last year.
In the 13 weeks to 29 May, the group’s Premier Inn budget hotel brand experienced an 18.3 per cent increase in sales and a 10 per cent increase in like for like sales. Whibread’s Costa Coffee brand saw total sales rise 28.4 per cent and its pub restaurants division saw its sales rise by 5 per cent.
Alan Parker, chief executive, said: “The attractiveness of our brands has been demonstrated by our good performance to date. We remain cautious, however, should the consumer environment become more challenging.”
