Grants Boost For East Midlands Tourism
Tourism firms in the East Midlands are invited to apply for a share of a £2.4 million funding pot. East Midlands Development Agency (EMDA) is providing the programme to improve the quality of tourism and help boost the region’s visitor economy, two of the key priorities outlined in their 2008-2011 Strategic Plan.
Support can be allocated for projects in two areas:
Category One initiatives that provide grants of between £200,000 and £500,000 for developing the physical infrastructure; and
Category Two grants of between £40,000 and £100,000 to support the development and planning work required on larger-scale structural projects Tourism businesses in the following areas are eligible to apply:
-
Derbyshire.
-
Lincolnshire.
-
Northamptonshire.
-
Nottinghamshire.
-
Rutland.
Successful projects will be innovative, sustainable (environmentally, socially, and economically), and have the potential to give the region a competitive advantage over other UK tourist attractions.
Ruth Hyde, tourism director for EMDA, said: “We are delighted to be able to offer this level of financial support to the industry and are looking for projects that will really make a difference and give our visitors something new and unique to take in during their stay."
She added that although tourism in the region was already doing well, the funding could really help take the sector to the “next level” and could be a “crucial factor in contributing to this flourishing economic region”.
Interested applicants have until 25 July to submit an expression of interest.
